Overcoming Procrastination – Increasing Productivity

Are you all too familiar with the habit of procrastination? If you find yourself skilled at putting things off, why not consider putting off procrastination itself?

It may sound like a simple idea, but why do we fall into this trap in the first place? We set important goals for ourselves, yet we keep delaying their pursuit. Instead of being driven by motivation and the pleasure of achievement, we end up avoiding the tasks altogether.

One common reason for procrastination is that the initial step towards our goals seems overwhelmingly large.

The solution: Break it down into as many smaller steps as possible. When you achieve even one of these smaller steps, you’ll find the motivation to keep going. Essentially, you’ll create a chain of accomplishments that will drive you to complete the entire task.

Another effective method is to examine the emotions that arise when you procrastinate. Are you feeling frustrated, fearful, or burdened by limiting beliefs? Will it be good enough? Take a moment to analyse these feelings and then logically ask yourself what could happen if you continue to postpone and never finish the task.

Conversely, consider how it would feel to take that first step and complete it. Envision the satisfaction of finishing the entire project on time and within budget. Think about the praise and appreciation you would receive from your boss, colleagues, friends, and family. Picture your future self and immerse yourself in those positive emotions – because what you focus on, tends to materialise.

Remember, procrastination is a strategy that can be transformed into a positive mindset, allowing you to unlock your true productivity potential. Once you master it, new habits form.
